- Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman who was struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning in Deerfield Beach.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:22 a.m. near the intersection of Hillsboro Boulevard and Country Club Boulevard. Investigators determined the victim, Melissa Rutherford, 48, of Deerfield Beach, was lying on the ground before she was struck by a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta.
Rutherford died at the scene. At this time, investigators do not know why she was lying on the ground prior to being hit by the car.
The driver of the Jetta remained on scene and cooperated with detectives.
The investigation continues.
