Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives said they believe the driver suspected of fatally striking a pedestrian last week in Deerfield Beach is evading arrest.
Deputies with the Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit have identified the driver as Michael David Green. They are concerned that he may be trying to repair damage to the Chevrolet Silverado pickup that hit Grigoriy A. Berkolayko as the 60-year-old crossed the street in or near a crosswalk.
Around 7:20 p.m. March 8, Berkolayko was walking east across North Federal Highway at Northeast Eller Street when an older-model Chevrolet Silverado heading north on Federal Highway struck him. THI detectives say that based on witness statements, the pickup slowed to a near stop and then turned west on Northeast Eller Street.
Berkolayko was transported to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries. He died on March 9 at the hospital.
In a photograph that detectives are releasing today, Green appears to have a thin build and full gray beard. On the day of the crash, he wore a light-colored long sleeve shirt, plaid blue shorts and blue sneakers. Green also had two pairs of glasses, one of which was dangling from his shirt.
Detectives believe the pickup is a 2006 gray Chevrolet Silverado with an extended cab. There may be minor damage on the front passenger side.
The traffic homicide investigation continues. Anyone with information can contact THI Det. Anthony Morales at 954-321-4840. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
