Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-A subject we have written about many times. Synagogues are a natural “soft target” for Anti-Semitic Right Wing Nazi’s. In today’s climate of the highest rate of Anti-Semitic incidents and attacks in America’s history Jewish communities must be paying attention.
We have questioned why to the north in Boca the congregations have used “Special Details” from Boca Raton Police or PBSO for Temples located in the unincorporated part of Boca for years? Some Boca Raton synagogues use armed guards and “Special Details” to protect congregants post-9-11. “Special Details” are available from law enforcement offering police services paid for by the civilian organization that needs the extra protection.
I understand we cannot in today’s world have police protection everywhere. That said we have three synagogues within 100 feet of each other. That is three soft targets in a very small and concentrated area. These three synagogues membership are primarily elderly senior citizens. Prudence would say in an abundance of caution our synagogues should be stepping up their security game. I did notice a BSO vehicle parked out in the lot yesterday all day. I hope the Jewish community and non-Jews will turn out in droves for this weekends Shabbat services to demonstrate in America those that wish to pray will.
