I reached out to you on FB last night regarding my plans on bringing travel baseball to the City.
Although Deerfield Beach Little League has been providing baseball to the City for 60 years, each of the cities surrounding us have private teams that are part of a national organization that is open to kids who want to advance their careers and train and prepare for high school, college etc. Travel ball is very competitive and having been involved in it myself, is an excellent way to bring people from other communities to our City which supports our local businesses. Tournaments can be held, most of which last for several days which means you have entire teams and families hanging around our city using our hotels, shopping and eating at local restaurants.
Deerfield Beach has never had a local travel team, most families simply relied on the teams already established in Boca, Parkland, Pompano etc and those communities have benefited from it not only from a monetary standpoint but also, if the team is competitive, it gives that city credibility in the sports community.
I approached the City parks and recreation department with my plans and proposal and they were very receptive, they understand the value this brings to the city and its facilities. They have agreed to give me access to the fields and equipment located at the Middle School Complex on SE 6th Ave. Our season is short, it runs from mid September and runs through early November then we have playoffs.
If possible it would be nice if you could meet us at the field during one of our practices and see what we’re doing. I’m hoping to build something that will perpetuate and expand in the city.
