Incident occurred in  Parkland Florida-Broward Sheriffs report of the following tragic accident Christmas Eve,resulting in the death of a 92 year old man. Another horrible senior citizen traffic death raises the question’s how old is too old and why do we not have a retest system. Driving while old or DWO [old and unsafe to be driving]. is a huge problem on Florida’s roads.

Not only is there not a mandatory retest system for elderly drivers at any age, there is no way if you are a concerned family member to get the questionable driver to turn in their keys. There is no mechanism we found to assist anyone concerned about the dangers of a loved one still driving.Deerfield-News.com covered this subject after the trafic death of a senior driving in Boca Raton was killed at Yamato Road Tri Rail crossing.

Deerfield-news.com still has not received a response to our inquiries as to The State of Florida’s lack of a bad or dangerous driver reporting system or any other services Florida may offer concerned citizens in how to deal with an elderly unsafe driver. We realize this is controversial and some may say age discriminatory or  age biased. That said it is a reality.Anyone driving on Florida’s roads is at risk because of the lack of a safety net, that was brought about by decades of lobbying for exactly this, no retesting for a drivers license because of age..

RIP Mr. Aliotta-Hopefully we can learn something and take action .
