Tuesday’s fatal crash in Deerfield Beach.

Driver(s):

Paulo Rocha, 52, male, Fort Lauderdale

Pedestrian(s): Jeffrey Benedict, 59, male, 9/04/1957, 860 S.E. 6th Ave., Apt 102, Deerfield Beach (DECEASED)

Description of Incident:

Broward sheriff’s Office traffic homicide investigators are looking into the cause of Tuesday afternoon’s fatal accident in Deerfield Beach.

Jeffrey Benedict, 59, was crossing over Southeast 10 Street from north to south. He had made it across the westbound lanes, but was struck by a vehicle that was changing lanes as he stepped into the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the silver 2006 Kia Spectra remained on the scene and is assisting with the investigation.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported Benedict to North Broward Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Impairment is not suspected, and evidence at the scene indicates that speed was not a factor in this crash. The investigation continues.
