Fake charities take real donations. Protect yourself from scams when donating to disaster relief.
Many of us are anxious to send monetary donations to help with the recovery efforts in the Bahamas and it is wonderful to see so many people step up. Unfortunately, criminals are ready to take advantage of people’s generosity by scamming them out of money.
If you are interested in providing financial relief to help those impacted by Hurricane Dorian, you can visit one of the following sites to search for reputable charities:
• Give.org
• Charitynavigator.org
Donors should watch out for newly created organizations that emerge that are either inexperienced in addressing disasters or may be seeking to deceive donors at a vulnerable time. We encourage everyone to do their research before making a donation.
The City of Deerfield Beach also has the following set up for folks to help with supplies.
