Deerfield-Beach.news — Mark your calendars, then get ready to mark them again. Judge Frank Ledee has granted Cory Coddington’s unopposed motion for continuance, kicking calendar call to October 15 and jury trial to October 26 at the Broward County Courthouse, Courtroom NW4750. The State didn’t object.
The order, signed August 26, also accepts Coddington’s “knowing and intelligent waiver” of speedy trial under Rule 3.191. Translation for the non-lawyers: the clock that forces the State to try you quickly just got unplugged. Future continuances get a whole lot easier once that waiver hits the file.
Coddington, you’ll recall, faces an eight-count amended Information stemming from the June 6 crash-and-carjack on East Hillsboro — carjacking, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of battery on an officer, resisting with violence, felony meth possession, and petit theft. He must appear in person at both October hearings.
We’re now nearly five months out from arrest with no plea and no trial. Whether October 26 is a real date or just the next placeholder depends on what happens between now and then — and this case has a habit of adding chapters.
