Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, FL-The FDOT says all ALPR and Flock cameras must be removed from all state roads. Municipalities will have 30 days to comply.
Governor DeSantis said the following: “Well, I’ve been on the record as saying that what we don’t want in the state of Florida is to have a digital AI surveillance state where everything we’re doing is being tracked at all times.”
In the memorandum, FDOT said that reports of misuse and data concerns merited “immediate action to preserve Floridians’ sovereignty and quality of life.”
We have reported many cases of misuse of information improperly obtained from the cameras, often by law enforcement.
We also believe they serve a purpose to stop speeders, particularly here in Deerfield Beach School Zones, and have been used to solve very serious crimes. The misuse of data is a serious issue.
There was a case where a sworn officer met a woman at a radome and even had a crush on her . He subsequently used information obtained from Flock Cameras to basically stalk her and make an illegal traffic stop seeking a date. That is one of many incidents nationwide that have led many to question who has access to and control over the cameras.
