Is the Broward County Sheriff Trying to Interfere with the Deerfield Beach Local Elections?
On August 8th Deerfield Beach Resident Dan Herz posted his and candidate Wayne Adam’s lawsuit against the City of Deerfield Beach, regarding the ballot question asking the residents if they want to move the elections to November. Every citizen deserves their day in court and I have no issues with Mr. Herz and Mr. Adams exercising their right to seek justice if they believe the ballot question is unlawful.
What caught my attention however, is the realization that the attorney who they selected also represents Sheriff Gregory Tony. Of all the attorneys in Broward County and in the State of Florida that Mr. Herz and Mr. Adams could have chosen, they selected the Law firm of Webster and Baptiste out of Tallahassee who represented Sheriff Gregory Tony in state proceedings involving his conduct and professional certification.
An honest voter might say, well Webster and Baptiste must be the experts in Florida election law as to the reason Mr. Herz and Mr. Adam’s selected their firm. A quick review of the Webster and Baptiste website however, https://www.websterandbaptiste.com/ reveals their expertise is employment law and criminal defense not election law.
This begs the questions; who is behind the campaigns of Mr. Herz and Mr. Adams? Are these candidates truly interested in looking out for the residents of Deerfield Beach or are they being guided and funded by Sheriff Gregory Tony with the end goal of getting elected, so they can reverse the city’s decision to transition from The Broward Sheriff’s Office?
Why should this concern every Deerfield Beach taxpayer? Because the City has already committed millions of dollars preparing for the transition away from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Since, October 1 of 2025 the city has spent over $8 million in tax payer dollars on contracts for vehicles and equipment, consultants, transition police and fire chiefs and executive officers in preparation of establishing the Deerfield Beach Police and Fire Departments.
Reversing course in March back to BSO would be in the best financial interest of the Broward Sheriff’s Office not the taxpayers of Deerfield Beach.
Through his actions Sheriff Gregory Tony appears to be attempting to influence the City of Deerfield Beach’s election. Has his relationship with Mr. Herz and Mr. Adams crossed the legal line into improperly interfering with Deerfield Beach local elections? That is something I cannot say.
I am hopeful that this letter will prompt our local news outlets and the Deerfield Beach voters to closely monitor the relationship between, Mr. Herz, Mr. Adams and Sheriff Gregory Tony.
The Deerfield Beach voter deserves transparency regarding this relationship and to know if it is merely political coordination and advocacy or if it has crossed the line into conduct to interfere with the City of Deerfield Beach’s local election.
What a crock of doodoo. What a stretch to suggest these men are in cohoots with Sheriff Tony because they’re using the same attorney! Perhaps they should have used the City Attorney! And this so called News site printed this nonsense to further confuse the Residents of DB without any real evidence. I hope you both get sued.
