Deerfield-News.com Deerfield Beach, Fl-If Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony is planning on breaching the contract for services of police and fire services” AFTER UNILATERALLY CANCELING IT”. Sheriff Tony has made it clear on social media and by mailing out a full-color brochure to every Deerfield Beach resident and business that his phasing-out schedule is TO WITHDRAW SERVICES IN PHASES. If, in fact, he does that, Governor DeSantis must remove him from office.

Two governmental agencies, BSO and the City of Deerfield Beach, had a contract. The contract is clear as to what happens if it is canceled. Clearly, the city of Deerfield Beach is entitled to continuous police and fire services until September 30, 2027, if they need them. The Sheriff does not get to modify that in any way, shape, or form, especially by withholding services from sections of the city and phasing them out on his own schedule. That is not the deal!

Not only will the city of Deerfield Beach, as was reported last week, take legal action, but it also voted to do so with outside counsel. The scare tactics being used by Sheriff Tony are unethical and despicable.

The Sheriff knows better and must do better.

Protect and Serve, Sheriff. Honor the contract and your obligations. Every resident of Deerfield Beach deserves nothing less. This is not a game; this is the most serious of all things that citizens depend on” FROM THEIR GOVERNMENT,” police and fire services, and must be able to count on them 24/7, 365 days a year.

If for one minute or one hour, there is any lapse of police or fire services for Deerfield Beach, Governor DeSantis must step in and remove Sheriff Tony the same way he removed Sheriff Israel.

While the city has the right to sue and will sue if Tony does as he has said. Even for injunctive relief, a Temporary Restraining Order could take hours or a day or more  to be granted. I would hope that whichever Broward County Circuit Court judge hears Deerfield Beach’s lawsuit will issue a TRO, and more orders requiring the Sheriff to perform will be granted ASAP!
