Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach. The city of Deerfield Beach commission has approved our flagship International Fishing Piers renovation plans.
The ink is not even dry on the plans for the project that many on social media have been complaining about the lack of repair since the damage occurred and yet rumors are on the internet about corruption.
Deerfield-News. com questioned and obtained the public records for the lifeguard stand project and its cost as we do with many city projects. We too thought it was expensive, so we posted that. The facts of what it costs to build lifeguard stands is a lot more than even I thought it would be. That said we checked with 6 different local cities after questioning the costs. The public records revealed that other cities paid what is the going market price Deerfield Beach was not getting fleeced and there is and was no evidence of kickbacks or corruption by elected city officials or city employees involved with that project.
Once again if anyone has any evidence or whistle-blowers with first-hand factual knowledge of any wrongdoing about the pier renovation feel free to contact us. You can remain anonymous, just supply us with the evidence. Seems anytime the city votes to spend money there are always those who without any evidence accuse officials of wrongdoings and brother-in-law deals and wasting taxpayer money and kickbacks.
Again this post should only be about what the city has planned what the pier will look like and the cost and a date for completion. But Facebook and other social media sites are rampant with rumors.
PIER RENOVATION
The International Fishing Pier suffered damage from Tropical Storm Nicole on November 9, 2022. A thorough structural assessment revealed additional damage, prompting the City to close a section known as the “T”. After presenting various design options to the community, a preferred plan was chosen. Subsequently, the City initiated a procurement process for construction services, and a construction company was selected through competitive bidding.
We are now ready to commence the necessary repairs and renovations. On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the City Commission voted to close the pier for renovations for the duration of the construction. The closure will begin upon receipt of all jurisdictional agency permits. Stay tuned for the closure details.
Exciting news for our beloved pier! The City Commission has approved renovations to enhance our waterfront paradise. The pier will undergo a transformation with new pavilion structures, Fish cleaning stations, park benches, Replacement of existing fences and gates, and more. Stay tuned for the closure date, and get ready to enjoy a revamped and improved experience at the pier!
