Deerfield Beach & Hillsboro Beach Announce
Joint Beach Nourishment Project
The City of Deerfield Beach would like to notify residents that work to nourish the City’s coastline will begin in April 2023. For now, residents should expect to see equipment set up on the beach, as staging for this extensive project is underway.
In April, residents will see a pipeline cross from the beach’s northern end to the southern end and into the Town of Hillsboro Beach. This is part of the City’s Comprehensive Coastal Management Program and will involve the excavation of sand from the ebb shoal offshore of the Boca Raton Inlet. The unearthed sand will be placed along Deerfield Beach and Hillsboro Beach’s coastline. This process will help restore and maintain the beaches south of the Boca Raton Inlet and offset long-term beach erosion. The City of Deerfield Beach is also partnering with the City of Boca Raton to utilize dredged sand from the Boca Raton Inlet ebb shoal. The City of Boca Raton will be constructing its South Boca Beach Nourishment project before the pipeline is extended into Deerfield Beach.
There will be more communication in the coming weeks. Please look for more updates on the City’s website and social platforms.
