Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony shared his sentiments about the life and service of Deputy Shannon Bennett who passed away last night due to COVID-19. Among numerous accomplishments, Deputy Bennett was instrumental in leading the initiative to further establish unity between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community.
Sheriff Tony urges the community to support first responders by being compliant with statewide orders to stay indoors. “This is a reminder to the community about the warnings presented for our communities to keep themselves in isolation. Every time we have to respond to a call for people congregating at the beach or anyplace else, it puts our lives at risk.”
We’re going to continue to fight this battle! Together, we can flatten the curve, but we must continue to work together.
Today, the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office lined the streets, honored to salute Deputy Shannon Bennett as his body was escorted from Broward Health North to a Dania Beach funeral home. The BSO family always stands together, bound by the service we provide to others. We thank Deputy Bennett for his service, today and always. We will never forget your sacrifice.
