- Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives arrested a Pompano Beach man for the deaths of two people who were killed last month in Deerfield Beach.
Juan Ayala Soto was arrested shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday at his residence. He is currently being held without bond at the BSO Main Jail and faces two counts of first-degree murder for the fatal shootings of Jessica Aponte and Luis Alberto Lopez Sanchez.
Homicide investigators said they believe the shooting involved an ongoing dispute between Soto and Sanchez.
At approximately 9:40 a.m. on September 25, employees from a doctor’s office went to the home, located in the 400 block of Northeast 39th Street, to check on their co-worker, Jessica Aponte, who did not show up for work that day.
They looked into the house through an open door, saw the body of a male on the floor and then called 911.
BSO deputies and fire rescue personnel responded to the scene and confirmed that Aponte, 41, and Sanchez, 24, were deceased.
Detectives said Aponte lived at the home alone.
