Activists are pressuring the Deerfield Beach City Commission to ban pet sales from local pet stores in Broward County. This ordinance could force local small business owners to shut down, and would promote unregulated, black market pet sales.

We need to put careless, abusive, and illegal puppy mills out of business, not local pet stores. Here’s what a Deerfield Beach pet sale ban would do:

CREATE UNREGULATED, BLACK MARKET PET SALES
Closing locally-owned pet stores invites a black market in sick, bad tempered and poor quality dogs from illegal breeders and fly-by-night rescues.

UNFAIRLY TARGET LOCAL PET STORES
Pet stores are already the most regulated source for puppies in the state. Adding more regulations will unfairly target local small businesses. It is unfair to punish all local pet store owners for the careless actions of a few non-local, illegal breeders.

DESTROY JOBS
Hard-working employees at local pet stores could lose their jobs because of this unfair regulation. Don’t let that happen.
