New Leadership for Deerfield Beach Public Safety
The City of Deerfield Beach is proud to announce the selection of Daniel Morgalo as transitional Police Chief and Chantal Botting as transitional Fire Chief.

As we move toward establishing independent police and fire rescue departments, these two leaders bring over 50 years of combined South Florida public safety experience to our community.

Chief Chantal Botting joins us after a distinguished 25 year career with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. Known for her focus on "Communicating in Today's Fire Service," Chief Botting is a strong advocate for empathy and personal interaction within leadership.

Chief Daniel Morgalo comes to the city with over 30 years of law enforcement experience, most recently serving as the Assistant Chief of Operations for the Miami Beach Police Department. He is a specialized expert in regional preparedness and strategic operations.

"Securing the right leadership is paramount as we build the foundation for our independent departments," says Mayor Todd Drosky. "We are confident their guidance will ensure a seamless transition and a high standard of protection for our residents."

Please join us in welcoming Chief Morgalo and Chief Botting to the Deerfield Beach family!

Get the Facts: Social Media Rumors vs. Contract Reality
As we build toward this exciting future, we want to make sure you have accurate information.
There is a lot of chatter on social media right now regarding our public safety transition, but not everything being posted is accurate. When it comes to the safety of our community, we believe in absolute transparency.
Don't rely on rumors. Here is the reality of our agreement with the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), backed directly by the legally binding contract:
Local Control: BSO cannot direct the City on how to create its own independent police department. (Section 17)
Protected Timeline: BSO must provide the City up to 24 months (until September 30, 2027) to complete the transition, unless the City is ready to launch sooner. (Section 14d)
Uncompromised Safety: The contract strictly guarantees that BSO must provide the "same high quality of police services" throughout the entire transition period. (Section 14d)
Locked-In Staffing: BSO cannot change the staffing structure in Deerfield Beach. They must continue providing 28 sworn patrol deputies each day, ensuring one is in each patrol zone across the City. (Sections 2a & 2e)
No Unilateral Changes: BSO cannot modify any terms of this contract unless mutually agreed to by the City through a formal written amendment. (Section 19f)
Looking Ahead
We look forward to a bright future where our own dedicated, local departments provide the personalized, top-tier service our community deserves. This transition is a historic milestone for Deerfield Beach, and we are excited to build a safer, more connected city together.
Read it for Yourself
The best way to fight misinformation is with the official source. We have made the entire agreement available to the public.
