Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating an unusual pedestrian fatality that occurred Wednesday morning in Deerfield Beach.
Detectives responded to the intersection of Hillsboro Boulevard and Military Trail around 9:13 a.m. Multiple witnesses said traffic east and west on Hillsboro Boulevard was stopped at the traffic signal. The pedestrian, Marvin Cohen, 73, was observed on his hands and knees on the crosswalk appearing to be in distress and unable to stand. None of the drivers waiting for the traffic signal observed Cohen on the ground directly in front of them. When the traffic light cycled to green and vehicles began to move, Sherry Sylvester, 47, ran over Cohen. She immediately stopped her Ford Focus in the intersection.
Cohen was transported to Broward Health North where he was pronounced dead. Detectives believe he could have suffered a medical event prior to the incident.
Speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in this investigation. |
