ONE DEAD AND ONE ARRESTED IN DEERFIELD BEACH SHOOTING

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit arrested a man in connection to a shooting that left one person dead Sunday night in Deerfield Beach.

At approximately 7:12 p.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting a shooting near the 5100 block of East Lakes Drive in Deerfield Beach. BSO district deputies responded and located an adult male, identified as Ryan McGowan, suffering from gunshot wounds. BSO deputies immediately rendered aid. Paramedics transported McGowan to a local hospital for treatment where he passed away a short time later. The suspect, Mauro Lopez, stayed on scene and was detained. Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide Unit responded to the scene.

According to detectives, the preliminary information reveals the shooting stemmed from an earlier argument between Lopez and McGowan at a different location. Lopez subsequently encountered McGowan outside the residence in the 5100 block of East Lakes Drive and shot him multiple times.

Lopez was arrested and transported to BSO Main Jail. He faces one count of second degree murder with a firearm and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.
