“Walk the City”
2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25
Walk to begin at Fredies Market, 286 S.W. 1st Terrace, Deerfield Beach

In an effort to increase communication with residents, Sheriff Gregory Tony and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office will join Deerfield Beach city officials as part of a “Walk the City” initiative. The city’s first walk will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Fredies Market, located at 286 S.W. 1st Terrace, Deerfield Beach.
This effort was developed from Sheriff Tony’s “Park, Walk and Talk” program, which is a collaboration between law enforcement and the communities served by BSO. Since its inception in June 2019, deputies have conducted more than 11,725 walks throughout BSO’s districts in Broward County.
During “Walk the City,” BSO’s command staff and deputies from various units in the Deerfield Beach district will walk through the neighborhood to engage with residents who may not interact often with law enforcement, but may have issues they would like addressed. Deerfield Beach Mayor Bill Ganz and city commissioners, along with the city manager and staff from code enforcement, maintenance, streets, sustainability and others are also invited to participate in the walk to speak with residents and provide immediate solutions, where possible. For issues that require additional attention, BSO and city officials will work together to take information back to discuss and follow up with residents to provide solutions.
Deerfield Beach’s first “Walk the City” will include the neighborhood between Southwest Second Street and Southwest Third Street, beginning at Southwest First Terrace and ending just past Southwest Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Additional walks will be scheduled throughout the year in various neighborhoods across the city.
BSO’s participating departments include the Deerfield Beach district command and detectives from the Crime Suppression Team, Tactical Deployment Team and Criminal Investigations, as well as members from the Community Outreach, Resource and Education/Neighborhood Support Team.
