Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-Since the inception of Florida’s new Red Flag Law, Broward County has seized over 400 weapons from citizens using the new “Ex- Parte” law. Extreme Risk Protection Orders allow for law enforcement to seek the permission of a Circuit Court Judge to order the removal of weapons from those who pose a threat or pose a high risk of danger and should not have access to firearms. The Extreme Risk Protection Orders permit Ex Parte(without the other party) motions to be granted by judges to allow law enforcement to remove weapons from those named in the order.  The new law was passed after the death of 17 people at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February of 2018. The Red Flag Law allows a judge to seize anyone’s weapons for 14 days prior to them having their day in court. Prior to the expiration of the order, the court must set a hearing date giving those subject to the law their day in court to refute the necessity of the order.
