Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach,Fl-Just after 5pm, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue received a call for a fuel tanker rollover with active leak located at Northbound I95 just north of the Sample Rd exit in Deerfield Beach.

It appears the incident occurred after a fuel tanker and a Honda sedan collided causing the tanker truck to veer to the right shoulder and rolled over a barrier wall and into the right shoulder. The tanker came to rest upside down and began leaking its contents; potentially its full 4,000 gallon load.

Hazardous materials teams from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue along with Ft. Lauderdale and Sunrise are working to mitigate the leak. While it is unknown precisely how much fuel has leaked, it is extensive.

Furthermore, this will be an extremely protracted incident and will likely take many hours to mitigate. It is likely that the northbound lanes of I95 between Sample Rd and SW 10th Street could remain closed during the overnight and into the morning commute Monday.

While no evacuations have been ordered, on an abundance of caution we are encouraging residents that live in the area of NW 3rd Ave between Sample Rd and NW 38th Street to remain indoors for their safety to help reduce the risk of exposure to any vapors which may be present.

One injury has been reported at this time involving the male driver of the tanker truck. He has been transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
