More than $2,000 worth of electronics that walked out of a Target was returned to the store thanks to the quick work of a loss prevention specialist and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies in Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach. Within an hour of the theft, BSO Pompano Beach deputies had the thief and her accomplice in custody.
Around 8 a.m. Feb. 26, Jasmine McCartney, 25, walked into the Target at 1200 S. Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach. She filled a shopping cart with devices such as computer kits, televisions and Wi-Fi routers. Then, McCartney bypassed the checkout and went to a waiting gray Nissan. One of the store’s loss prevention specialists who recognized McCartney as a repeat-offender notified a BSO Deerfield Beach detective. About 40 minutes later, BSO Pompano Beach deputies on the Community Outreach Response and Enforcement team (CORE) noticed a gray car parked at 704 N.W. Fifth Ave. Deputies determined that the Nissan had a stolen license plate and attempted to make a traffic stop.
McCartney, who was behind the wheel, took off to the 400 block of Northwest 10th Avenue in Pompano Beach where she fled into a house. Her passenger, Tiffany Sharpe, 26, also alighted only to be caught a short time later by deputies.  McCartney was found in the home and arrested without further incident.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found the stolen goods along with illicit drugs.McCartney, who had two warrants for previous robberies, faces a litany of charges in addition to those related to the theft, fleeing from deputies and possessing illegal drugs. Sharpe faces five charges including trespassing in a conveyance and resisting an officer.
