Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach,Fl- Darlene Cronk a member of Facebook Group DBI-Deerfield Beach Island has organized a clean up our beach program and is seeking the help of other concerned citizesns. Darlene’s efforts have even lead the city to provide at our Deerfield Beach pier equipment, gloves and buckets and shovels to assist in the collection of litter and debris to be removed from our beach!  Below there is a snippet from our story on the City of Deerfield Beach’s information about the clean up our beach program.

Don’t forget it is this Sunday! Low of 68 and a high of 72 expected for a PERFECT day at the beach!
We will meet at the big tent I am setting up next to the pier…grab an ice cold beverage, gloves, and a bucket and we will get started before noon I want to make sure everyone is there and “hydrated” before we start…plus its a great time to meet everyone!
DBI shirts will be given to volunteers!
If you can’t see yourself bending over or kneeling for 3 hours please come anyway and meet everyone…you can help watch the tent and recruit beachgoers to help us out!

I’d like to start a monthly “meet-up and clean-up” at our beach.
We meet at the pier and choose an area to remove litter while getting a tan and getting to know each other. It is a win-win-win!

Afterward we can grab drinks at a selected bar and feel good about what we have done. On the city’s inaugural clean-up, a handful of volunteers collected over 100lbs of litter, some quite dangerous to humans as well as sea life, in just 3 hours of crawling around.

We can arrange to provide ice cold water and clean-up supplies to be ready when you arrive.

I alternated one month is a Saturday and the next a Sunday…I will keep an eye on the weather and make any necessary changes.

DON’T FORGET YOUR SUN SCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET’S GIVE IT A SHOT!

Thanks, Darlene Great Job!!!!

We the citizens can make a difference.

Now Cleanup kits will be stationed at the Pier Bait Shop available for check-out by beach visitors. A cleanup kit would include a 2-gallon bucket for litter, gloves, and a sifter for small things in the sand. Participants can use the buckets to collect litter on and around the beach during their visit, then return them to the Pier Bait Shop when finished. Each bucket will be weighed upon return to track the impacts of the program. Participation will also be tracked, and first-timers will receive a cool sticker. Returning participants will receive a t-shirt after their 4th.
